Common questions
I’m stuck. Is this board impossible?
No. Every board can be solved. Try Hint for a good next move, or Shuffle to rearrange the remaining tiles into another solvable position. In tray mode, a board can be lost if the tray fills with four different tiles; replay it and plan a move or two ahead. The how to play guide has more tips.
I don’t like the tray. Can I play classic mahjong solitaire?
Yes. Open Settings and switch the mode to classic pairs: tap two matching free tiles to clear them.
Online play says I’m offline or can’t connect.
Check that your device is online, then reopen the game. If you are on a school or work network, it may block live connections; try another network. Solo play always works without a connection.
Why don’t I see my result on the leaderboard?
Results are checked by our server before they are listed, which can take a moment. Make sure Show me on leaderboards is on in Settings. Leaderboards only count boards cleared while you were connected to online play.
The game looks out of date or broken in my browser.
Close every Plum Mahjong tab and open plummahjong.com/play again, so the newest version loads. The game needs a recent browser: current Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox.
Is the game free? Are there ads?
The game is free, and no ads interrupt you between levels. Coins are earned by playing and only buy in-game helpers; they have no real-money value.
Progress and new devices
Your progress is saved on the device you play on. With an online account, it is also backed up, and you can move everything (name, ratings, friends and progress) to a new phone or browser:
- On your old device, open Settings → Transfer code and tap Show my code.
- On the new device, open Settings → Use a transfer code and enter it.
Keep the code private: anyone who has it can take your account. Making a new code stops the old one working.
Deleting your data
In the game, open Settings → Delete my online data and confirm. Your online account, name, ratings, friends, results and progress backup are deleted from our server right away. Your solo progress on the device stays; to remove it too, clear the site’s data in your browser or uninstall the app.
Can’t open the game any more? See delete your account by email.
Reporting a name or player
Tap a player’s name or avatar (in a match, a leaderboard or your friends list) to open their player card, then:
- Report name if their display name is offensive. Names that are reported enough are replaced with a generated one.
- Hide to stop seeing, meeting or hearing from that player. You can unhide players later in Settings.
To report cheating or anything else, email us with the player’s name, the mode and roughly when it happened.
